Types of Perfumes and How Long They Last – Table

But have people ever wondered what kind of perfume they have? If they were asked such a question, they would probably look at the label of the bottle and say the name. Although they may be able to find it on the back, it would take a lot of time since they would not know what exactly to be looking for. Here are the types of perfumes people may have right under their noses.

Types of perfume names?

  • Perfume
  • Eau de Parfum
  • Eau de Toilette
  • Eau de Cologne

Eau de Parfum

People would usually have this one in their possession. It has the second most perfume concentrate amongst the types of perfume. Because of the concentrate it has, it gives off a very delightful scent which lasts a long time.

The price range of a single vial or bottle of Eau de Parfum may not be cheap but it is not really that expensive either. This is why it’s very popular amongst the perfume types.

Eau de Cologne / Cologne

This particular type of perfume has the least concentrate amongst all of the perfume types. It’s very common to find a spray bottle of one of these in a man’s back pack or in his room.

Because it contains the least perfume concentrate, it makes up with other ingredients such as citrus oils or oils from fruits. Since the components don’t really cost that much, a spray or bottle of Eau de Cologne or Cologne doesn’t really cost that much. In fact, amongst all the types of perfumes, this one is the cheapest of them all.

Eau de Toilette

This particular type of perfume is like the middle man. It has a stronger scent than Eau de Cologne but falls a bit short of Eau de Parfum. This is because it has just the right amount of perfume concentrate added to it.

Just like all perfumes, the concentrate is added to oil solutions or water based solutions. The only thing that makes a perfume smell the way it does is the concentrate which is added. Since Eau de Toilette is smacked in the middle, with the perfume concentrate, it also falls in the middle in terms of price.

Perfume / Parfum

This has the most concentrate than all of the types of perfume. Its concentrate makes a quarter or half of the total solution to make perfume. Because of this, the scent of Parfum lasts longer than all the rest. This means that if a person smells really good for a really long time, he or she is using Parfum. Since it has a stronger concentration, it also has a high price. It’s the most expensive of all the kinds of perfumes.

These are the general types of perfumes and there have been new variations developed. But these are basically the general classifications.

Fragrance Note

  • Top notes
  • Middle notes
  • Base notes

Top notes are typically composed of floral, fruity, or citrus aromas. These notes create the initial impression of the fragrance and are typically the first to fade. For this reason, perfumes containing top notes should be stored in a cool, dark place. Light and heat can cause the scent of these notes to quickly fade.

Middle notes are typically composed of woody, spicy, or floral aromas. These notes create the heart of the fragrance and are typically felt in the middle range. Middle notes are more durable than top notes, but their scent can slowly fade if exposed to light and heat. For this reason, perfumes containing middle notes should also be stored in a cool, dark place.

Base notes are typically composed of woody, leather, or musk aromas. These notes create the foundation of the fragrance and typically last the longest. Base notes are more resistant to light and heat, but it is still recommended to store them in a cool, dark place.
